On Sunday evening, October 27th, we explored two of Bruno Giacosa's most enduring terroirs: Serralunga's great Falletto cru and Barbaresco's revered Asili.

And we did so by tasting every Red Label Riserva he has ever made from either vineyard. In the case of Asili, this took us back to 1967, and for Falletto, back to 1971.

To guide us through this extraordinary evening, we had as our very special guest Bruno's daughter Bruna, who has taken over many of his responsibilities and will one day be fully in charge. She has been intimately involved in the running of the cantina for at least a quarter century; I can recall visiting with both father and daughter on my first trip to Neive in the late 1980s.

Here was the line-up of wines:

Falletto Riserva: 1971, 1985, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1996
Rocche del Falletto Riserva: 2000, 2001, 2004, 2007, 2008
Asili Riserva: 1967, 1990, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2007

This amazing line-up was be accompanied by a five-course dinner created for us by Del Posto chef Mark Ladner, and wine service was guided by Wine Director Jeff Porter.
