2003 Jean-François Ganevat Savagnin Les Vignes de Mon Père

Les Vignes de Mon Père is Jean-Francois Ganevat’s most coveted wine. Luis Gutierrez sums it up nicely: “A truly world class white ... an eternal wine, the problem is availability“.

From Savagnin vines planted in 1930, this cuvée is a special 1,000-liter selection Ganevat chose to age in large barrel for another 10 to 12 years, topping it up regularly until only 50-75 cases remained. And the 2003 Vignes de Mon Père is particularly special. Gutierrez: "Against all odds, the 2003 (a truly warm vintage) feels the freshest and more balanced, with the 2000 following close. All of them are highly recommended.”

Though not rated specifically, the note above on the greatness of the 2003 was from a tasting session that included the 2004 which he awarded a 97 rating.
