The explosion of interest in Burlotto’s Barolo Monvigliero has brought recognition to the least well-known—and perhaps the most unique—of the great Barolo communes, Verduno.

Tucked away on the northern edge of the Barolo DOCG, Verduno’s destiny is to produce Nebbiolo with a sublime elegance and a hypnotic perfume not obtainable elsewhere. Yet, only Burlotto's Fabio Alessandria routinely captures its magic.

While Fabio’s Monvigliero is of course the ultimate expression of Verduno, another of his Barolos isn’t far behind: Acclivi. Always blended from the same three Verduno crus—Monvigliero, Neirane and Rocche dell’Olmo—it mirrors the Barolos that made his great-grandfather G.B. Burlotto arguably Barolo’s most famous winemaker a century ago. If you love his Monvigliero, you'll be captivated by Acclivi as well.

Antonio Galloni on the 2013: "94 rating ... another knockout from Burlotto ... with lavender, mint, violet and spice that develop in the glass ... it offers superb freshness, along with a striking interplay of pliant fruit, lifted, floral-infused aromatics, and an acid/tannin profile that adds brightness throughout ... This is a fabulous Barolo in the making."

The average US price today for 2013 Acclivi is $170.
