“The Vigna Vincaie Riserva bottling of Il Caberlot is stunning in 2016. The wine seems, at this early stage in its evolution, even more refined than the regular 2016 Il Caberlot, but also sharing the vintage’s marvelous depth and perfectly ripe fruit. The nose wafts from the glass in an elegant blend of sweet cassis, black cherries, a touch of pomegranate, Cuban cigars, a gorgeous base of dark soil (that again seems quite salty in this vintage), coffee bean, fresh oregano, a touch of violets and a classy framing of new oak. On the palate the wine is pure, precise and full-bodied, with a stunning core of fruit, marvelous mineral drive, ripe, buried tannins and a long, tangy and complex finish of exceptional balance and finesse. This is utterly brilliant!”
